Is windsurfing dangerous?

I asked this question 18 years ago when I discovered this world for myself.
I sometimes ask this question now and I still haven't found the answer to it.
See for yourself. I practice windsurfing about 50-60 days a year, and of these
- about 20 days at sea, and about 15-20 with a strong wind.
It has been like this for about 10 years. It's time to make conclusions. So...
The biggest and most frequent problems are injuries, bruises and grazes,
as well as the impact of the sun.
Damaging your skin on the legs is especially annoying - scratches are painful in salty sea water.
I use the most usual protection means:
- sunscreen with factor 20+ to protect the face, arms and legs;
- a lycra hydroshirt to protect the body and arms from the sun;
a hydrocostume to protect the body and legs from cold;
and also a common sea rescue facility - a life jacket.
It seems like we know what problems may arise and how to prevent them
But! The most dangerous enemy is the problem you don't think of, and thus you are helpless when it occurs.
Here are the results of the past 8 years:
- The most severe injury on water (I could have damaged the rib on my chest) happened on the lake in the city when there was no wind (would you like to know how it is possible?)!
- The most dangerous situation on water (I could have drowned) happened on the lake near the bank, at a depth of half a meter and wearing a life jacket!
- The most severe injury on the way to the seaside (a head injury - dissection, with blood) happened while I was sleeping at the hotel!
- The most serious damage done to the surfboard happened when it was stored in the garage!
Conclusion - be careful and cautious all the time, not only while windsurfing!
Good luck!
